Description - doTERRA Copaiba Softgels

Copaiba essential oil is derived from the resin of the copaiba tree which can grow upwards of more than 30 metres and can be found in tropical South America. Copaiba oil is widely used in cosmetic products including soaps, creams, lotions, and perfumes. Since the 16th century, copaiba essential oil has been utilised in traditional health practices by the natives of north and northeastern Brazil. Similar to Black Pepper essential oil, Copaiba is soothing and calming to the emotions, and can be applied topically combined with a carrier oil to promote the appearance of a clear, smooth complexion.

Source to You - dōTERRA Copaiba Softgels

In early 2018, Emily Wright and Dr. David Hill traveled to Brazil to meet some of dōTERRA's sourcing partners. The first days was spent getting to know Rosimar, Josafa and Jocimar, who are second and third generation Copaiba harvesters.

The main collection season is between January and June when the water gets high enough for the harvesters to travel to the trees by boat. They then walk miles into the jungle to check on their trees and extract resin. During this trip Rosimar took Emily, Dr Hill and Ben Platt to a brand new tree, that was ready to be tapped for the first time. On the first tap, Rosimar was able to extract maybe half a litre of copaiba oil. The yield after distillation is about 50% of this.

On Day 2 of their Copaiba sourcing trip to Northern Brazil, Emily and David Hill meet Jocimar and his family, a 3rd generation Copaiba harvester.

doTERRA works with harvesters, many of whom live along the Amazon River, who use a tree-tapping method, similar to how maple syrup is harvested, to collect the copaiba resin.

On a recent trip to the Amazon, Dr. Hill and Emily Wright were able to spend some time with the harvesters and their families. On getting to know them, it was obvious there was a need for better dental care.

One year from that visit, doTERRA works to help provide permanent care for more than 100 people in 11 different communities.
